Meet Kim
Hi, my name is Kim Walters. I am currently 23 years old and I
have been playing the violin for 6 years. I am an advanced
student and am still taking lessons myself. However I have been
teaching beginners for about 4 years now and it is something that
I really enjoy! I'm not sure what gave me the idea to start this
website. But one day I thought of the name - Violin Stars. And
then I thought "Wouldn't it be cool to have a website with that
name?" A website devoted to violinists? And so that's how it
came to be! Music is my passion and there's nothing I love more
than sharing it with others! And this site is the perfect way for
me to do that.

Before I began playing the violin I was a dedicated horseback
rider with dreams of becoming a champion. I practiced very
hard and I loved what I did with my whole heart. My
horse's name was Jumper. I got him when I was 11 and he
was 2. He was untrained and I knew nothing about horses!
It was a very long road filled with heartache and frustration.
He was a stubborn pony with a mind of his own! But after
years of hard work we formed a special bond. A bond that
was obvious to anyone watching the two of us compete. That
pony could fly! And we began to win. Jumper was only 13
hands tall - while most of the other horses were 15 hands or
bigger. But that didn't matter because he loved to run!
Ribbons and trophies began to fill my bedroom! All summer I
would compete in competitions. Sometimes it was extremely
hot and dusty, while other times it would be pouring rain and
freezing cold. It was hard work! But I loved it.
Horses were my entire life! I was definitely horse crazy!
But then one day my entire world changed . . .
I discovered the violin and the beauty of music.
Music touched me in a very special way. And I fell so deeply
in love with it that my passion for horses started to fade. . .
It was really difficult to be so devoted to two different
activities! And so eventually I quit working with my horses
and gave myself completely to my musical studies.
But eventually I figured out how to do both! And I am
back to working my horses as well as playing the violin.
Sometimes the horses even help me teach violin!
This is the cabin that I like to practice in during the
summer. Some days I have been known to play for 6 hours
or more - so I try to get away from the house so that I
don't drive my family insane!
Here is a picture of me performing with my youth chamber
group known as Olympic Youth Strings.
My violin teacher, Dr. Alan Rawson, directs the group.
Here is a picture of the Olympic Chamber Orchestra which
I have performed in. I'm sitting in the very back of the
first violins in this picture. This orchestra is also directed
by my teacher.
